From the recording LifeSpan - 2015
The original idea was of a parent talking to a child that they would never meet but that was too sad. This version is more of a parent expressing how much their kids mean to them added with a time line as both age. I played the Cello Line on a keyboard that really pulls the song together. This song, like Hard as Nails was one that just flourished as the layers were added and turned out much better than I had hoped.
As we gather in our shelter the pain is soon left behindTrying not to grow old before our timeAnd in a couple of years you will be gone from here and the strength in my life will be goneWhen you leave I'm aloneAny path you choose I will be right behind, You're a better version of meYou're my light when I can't seeAnd the love that you chose I will accept as mine as a light to fill your homeMy life dulls but you'll go on Chorus:I don't want you to goBut I'll channel your life as you growYou will be my candle, my candle, You are my life As we gather in our shelter, the pain is soon left behindYou fill the memories of my lifeThere were things that were given to me long before that have helped me throughout my own life and now there your's to pass through timeAnd your going is painful to my open mind, the first sound you made rebuilt meCelebrate the light you leaveYou're the light in my soul and I've keep hanging on, In a couple of years you'll come homeI'll grow old but you'll go on Chorus: I don't want you to goBut I'll channel your life as you growYou will be my candle, my candle, You are my lifeYou will be my candle, my candle, You have been my lifeYou have been my candle, my candle, You are my whole life
